Nellie Khalil is awarded the 2014 Professor Powell and Larry Moats Extra Five Minutes Faculty Award by Dr. Judith Marwick.
Congratulations to Harper College biology instructor Nellie Khalil the 2014 recipient of the Professor Powell and Larry Moats Extra Five Minutes Faculty Award.
Khalil’s students nominated her because in their words she is, “very approachable and always willing to go the extra mile.” Khalil frequently stays after class to further discuss the class material, and makes sure her course is relevant and exciting for her students. Often, Khalil goes beyond the textbook by sharing current discoveries from the field with her students – providing her classes with additional resources for in-depth study.
As one student said, “Khalil works very hard for her students. Her work ethic and passion for teaching indicate she is definitely someone who gives an extra five minutes to make a difference in students’ lives.”
Larry Moats was present at the Convocation ceremony where Khalil received her award and said that he could see the sense of pride on her face when she received this award.
