Registration open for Harper’s InZone summer camp

InZone Catalog 2022Put on your aprons, get ready to show off your jump shot or prepare for a year at Hogwarts – registration has begun for Harper College’s annual InZone summer enrichment and sports camp.

Students ages 6 to 14 can choose from more than 150 courses, taking place in one- and two-week sessions from June 6 through August 12. Classes will be offered both on-campus and online, although more selections will be back on Harper’s campus for 2022.

“We’re so happy to be able to return to an even larger variety of in-person courses this year,” said Kevin Hahn, Harper’s wellness and youth programming manager. “It was wonderful to be back on campus in 2021, but this summer’s camp will bring even more young students to campus.”

The 2022 edition includes the return of InZone’s “Kitchen Creations” courses to Harper’s recently renovated culinary classrooms, allowing young chefs to make fast food favorites or battle head-to-head in cooking competitions. Other courses will be held in Harper’s Makerspace, where students can learn to work with artificial intelligence or build their own 3D printers. Meanwhile, Harper coaches will lead sports camps in the college’s athletic facilities and music instructors will teach about everything from ukulele to Broadway favorites to rock and roll classics.

Children ages 6 to 8 can take advantage of the InZone Junior Explorers Camps, which are designed to engage younger learners in subjects including art, Lego programming, music, engineering and more. Likewise, teenagers from 14 to 17 can check out a range of options in the Makerspace specifically geared to high school students, as well as a Debate Camp.

“We always introduce new programs and learn from each year of InZone,” said Hahn, who’s been leading Harper’s summer camp for more than 15 years. “But the last two summers really proved that we can operate really great programs online. For 2022, some art and technology classes are offered both on-campus and online so that families can choose the best option for them.”
