Marion Bensing will begin her second year at Harper College in the Fall of 2021. Marion is working toward her Associate in Science in biology with the ultimate goal of going to medical school and becoming a pediatrician. Her dream to become a pediatrician is inspired by her childhood health diagnosis that greatly impacted her vision. She credits the treatment she received from her pediatrician as the catalyst for pursuing this goal. She maintains a 4.0 GPA.

Marion works part-time at Mariano’s Floral Department while balancing her time as a student. In high school Marion was an active member of the marching band and became drum major. She notes that she learned much from this leadership position. She has volunteered with Horsefeathers, which specializes in providing riding therapy to individuals with physical and mental disabilities. At Harper College, Marion is a member of the honors program and the Scientific Journal Club.

In her scholarship essay, Marion says, “My goal is to become a pediatrician. I want to contribute to the health and development of young children in my community in order for them to have easy transitions through stages of their young lives. While the road to this career is long, I am full of passion to one day help children. The HOPE scholarship will allow me to spend extra hours focusing on my studies and graduating with my career goal in mind rather than having to pick up extra shifts to minimize costs.”
