Harper College will be closed Wednesday, November 27 through Sunday, December 1 for Thanksgiving Break.
Minhall Jamali will begin her second year at Harper College in Fall 2021. Minhall, a first-generation college student, is working toward her Associate in Arts with a focus on economics. She hopes to double major in Economics and Math at a 4-year institution. She dreams of pursuing a career as a public policy advisor with the government. Minhall is inspired to continue to the highest levels of education by her mother, who grew up in a small Pakistani village with few educational opportunities for women. Later in her career, Minhall hopes to earn her PhD in economics and become a professor. She maintains a 4.0 GPA and is a member of the honors program.
At Harper College, Minhall is a member of the Muslim Student Association. She is also a member of the Speech and Debate Team and won bronze at the state competition. She has volunteered at Lutheran Senior Citizen Home in Arlington Heights. She balances school with working a part-time job.
In her scholarship application Minhall says, “My career goal is to work for the government as a public policy advisor and to advocate and write bills that relate to public interest. I want to work for better government programs and help the people of my state. The HOPE Scholarship will help me complete this dream without having the stress of money and trying to maintain grades while working, a struggle I face every day.”
