Massage Therapy Introductory Course

Course description

MTP 100: Introduction to Massage Therapy provides a general program overview and historical development of massage therapy. Introduces students to the benefits of massage therapy and its relationship to our current health care system, alternative health care systems and healing practices from other cultures. Introduces the systems of the body, basic effects of stress on the body and different types of massage modalities. Introduces students to basic anatomical terms, regions of the body, and an anatomy palpation demonstration and practice. Prerequisite: You must be 18 years old to register for this course.

Flexible schedule options

Harper College offers several sections of MTP 100-Introduction to Massage Therapy for Fall 2018, with options to take the course over two weeknights/one Saturday. Choose ONE of the following sections:

  • MTP100-002 (CRN 37707): Monday and Wednesday, October 15 & 17, 5 p.m.-9 p.m. and Saturday, October 20, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.
  • MTP100-003 (CRN 37710): Monday and Wednesday, November 12 & 14, 5 p.m.-9 p.m. and Saturday, November 17, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.

By successfully completing this course in the Fall 2018 students will be eligible to enroll in the rest of the massage therapy program starting in the Spring 2019 (January).

January Intro Course Option: The Intro course will be offered in January the week of Jan 14th over four consecutive evenings. Those students will also be eligible to begin the program in the January term. Details will be posted later in the term.
