Harper Employee 8 - Week Fitness Incentive; January 31 through March 23

Looking for some motivation this winter? Campus Recreation and Harper Wellness are here to help!

Harper employees! Join in on the fun at the Health and Recreation Center for this free "Take Care of Me in 2023" fitness incentive and lunch and learn series. This eight-week incentive includes fitness tips and fitness challenges emailed weekly, a free fitness assessment, and access to the "Snack and Learn" sessions held at the Health and Recreation Center. Registration is required and opens on Thursday, January 12 and closes on Friday, January 27.

Incentive Includes:

  • Fitness guidance tips emailed weekly
  • Free Health and Recreation Center tumbler with registration
  • All participants who participate in 75% of the snack and learn sessions will be entered into a drawing to win a Fitbit. Rules and regulations apply.
  • Free fitness assessment on Tuesday, February 7. Registration is required.
  • Access to the "Snack and Learn" sessions held twice a week at the Health and Recreation Center (M2010) with:

    • Cindy Burrows, NSCA Certified Personal Trainer, AFAA Group Exercise Instructor, NASM Nutrition Coach

Week 1: Prepare

  • Tuesday, January 31 from 11:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. snack and learn with Laura 
  • Thursday, February 2 from 11:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. snack and learn with Julie; 12 -12:30 p.m. wellness walk with Julie

Week 2: Assess

  • Tuesday, February 7 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. free fitness assessments at the Health and Recreation Center
  • Thursday, February 9 from 11:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. snack and learn with Beth; 12 -12:30 p.m. wellness walk with Beth 

Week 3: Fitness Goals

  • Tuesday, February 14 from 11:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. snack and learn with personal trainer Cindy
  • Thursday, February 16 from 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. snack and learn with Beth;12 -12:30 p.m. wellness walk with Beth 
  • Friday, February 17 free guest day at the Health and Recreation Center

Week 4: Nutrition

  • Tuesday, February 21 from 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. snack and learn with Ashley
  • Thursday, February 23 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. snack and learn with Ashley; 12 - 12:30 p.m. wellness walk with Ashley

Week 5: Mindfulness 

  • Tuesday, February 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. snack and learn with Michele and Jennifer 
  • Thursday, March 2 from 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. snack and learn with Mary Kay;12 -12:30 p.m. wellness walk with Mary Kay

Week 6: Flexibility and Balance

Week 7: Cardio and Strength

Fitness Assessment

Fitness assessments are used to collect baseline health data such as blood pressure, body fat, muscular endurance, flexibility and posture. These assessments can be used to develop fitness goals, training programs, and they can also be used as a comparison for future testing. The fitness assessments are free to Harper students, employees, and Health and Recreation Center members and are sponsored by: Harper Wellness, Department of Campus Recreation and the Department of Kinesiology and Health Education.

Fitness Assessment includes:

  1. Resting Heart Rate: one-minute pulse
  2. Cardiorespiratory Endurance Test: three-minute step test
  3. Muscular Endurance Test: one-minute push up test
  4. Body Composition Assessment: waist circumference measurement or body weight (one or the other)
