Activity Director

Harper College offers a 36-hour Continuing Professional Education (CPE) course that prepares students to become an Activity Director . The course covers topics such as:

  • Developing and implementing recreational activities for adults with dementia, intellectual disabilities, and serious mental illness.
  • Providing emotional support and social interaction to residents.
  • Managing behavior problems.
  • Creating a safe and supportive environment.

Course Description

This course provides instruction to students to meet the 36-hour IDPH requirement for activity directors, activity aides/assistants, and others involved with long-term care residents. Participants are instructed on how to develop unique programming to meet the recreational needs of residents with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, intellectual disabilities, and serious mental illness.
