Tax Information

Credit Students

All students enrolled in credit classes during 2023 will receive the IRS Form 1098-T.

Harper College will use the address on record as of January 2, 2024 to mail the IRS Form 1098-T.

Harper College uses your Social Security number/Individual Taxpayer ID Number (ITIN) to file the IRS Form 1098-T only. You may need to update your Social Security number if you have not provided it in the past or if Harper College does not have the correct number on file.  

How to update your taxpayer identification number:

  1. Scan ONE of the following:
    • Your Social Security Card
    • ITIN Form
    • Download easy fillable W-9S PDF file. Go to W-9S Form in the MyHarper Portal under Finances in the Payment and Refund section.
  2. Find the Update Social Security or ITIN Number in your MyHarper Portal under Finances in the Payment and Refund section
  3. Complete the Update Social Security or ITIN Number and upload your document from Step 1

The college will send two annual requests for a Social Security number or ITIN per IRS regulations. Please be aware if you do not provide a correct taxpayer identification number (Social Security or ITIN) you may be subject to IRS penalties.

The amount in Box 1 is calculated on payments for credit courses made between January 1, 2023 and December 31, 2023. It includes any 3rd party and financial aid payments.

You can give Harper College consent to receive the IRS Form 1098-T electronically. All future forms will not be mailed if you give your consent. To do so, log into your MyHarper Portal, go to the Finances page and then click the "Reprint 1098-T" link. Log into the site and choose "Online Consent." Read the consent form and choose "Accept Consent."

Community Education/Continuing Professional Education Non-Credit Students

The IRS does not require the Form 1098-T to be sent to students for Community Education/Continuing Professional Education non-credit classes. Please read IRS Publication 970 about the possibility of using the Lifetime Learning Credit for these types of classes. You may use copies of your receipts in those instances.

Print IRS Form Online

  • Log into your MyHarper Portal
  • Click on your Finances icon and then click on your Online Payments icon.
  • In the 1098-T Documentation box, click on the ‘View 1098-T’ link to login to the1098-T site.

Instructions to View or Print 1098-T

You need this information to print the form:

Site ID = 10291
Username = Student ID Number (ex. H00123456 case sensitive)
Password = Last 4 digits of Social Security Number*

*If you have not already changed your password.

Instructions to Reprint your 1098t

If you reset your password, a new password will be sent to your Harper student email.

If you never provided a Social Security Number for your college records, please call the Business Office at 847.925.6880.

You will need to use IRS Form 8863 when completing your taxes. It can be found on the IRS website at www.irs.gov. Please refer to IRS Publication 970 for assistance as to how to compute your tax credit.
